SCHMIDT CATI, Catiéle Raquel et al. Culture of patient safety from the perception of nursing technicians of a general hospital. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.4  Epub 01-Dic-2017. ISSN 1561-2961.

Introduction:

Hospitals whose premise guiding patient safety provide safe and quality care. It sought to then evaluate the perception of the nursing technician’s patient safety, since these are coordinated by a nurse, and provide direct care to the individual, which features a challenge for patient safety culture. In this context, identify safety culture indicators can serve as an initiative to bring about positive changes in the institutions, improving communication between professionals, trust, resulting in effective prevention. Objective: To assess the perception of nursing technicians working in a size IV general hospital about the climate of safety.

Methods:

This is a cross-sectional study, conducted with 345 nursing technicians. In order to collect data, we used the Questionário de Atitude de Segurança, Safety Attitudes Questionnaire, in the second half of 2014. The cutting point for positive assessment was ≥ 75 points. Data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics.

Results:

The scores by domain were: climate of team work (75 %), satisfaction in work (87 %), climate of safety (72 %), perception of stress (57 %), perception of unit management (64 %), perception of hospital management (63 %) and working conditions (73 %).

Conclusions:

work satisfaction and teamwork climate were the domains that obtained satisfactory averages, which directly reflects the quality of care provided. The lowest means were in relation to the management perception, an aspect that can show distancing between professionals of different hierarchical levels. Results can contribute to the planning and organization of the actions, in order to qualify the attendance and the working professionals.
