Introduction:

Professional cares today are mainly in the nurses’ hands and the quality with which they carry out this work is very related with their professional identity.

Objective:

To value the construction of the professional identity of nurses and his relation with care.

Methods:

Of qualitative study, at the Celia Sánchez Manduley Teaching Clinical Surgical Hospital, during 2016. The biographical method was used. From a universe of 10 nurses in the Intermediate Therapy room, a sample of 2 nurses was selected. The technique applied was the history of the profession. The analysis of content was carried out from the testimonies given by the nurses.

Results:

the professional identity of nurses consolidates all dimensions of care that have much more value in shaping their role as caregiver; these are: care as value, self care and care as the essence of life and profession

Conclusions:

The professional identity in its construction includes all dimensions of care, which are beginning to be incorporated from the early stages of the life cycle.
