Resumen

PLOCKINGER, Bárbara. Cuando las niñas se convierten en madres: Problemas de embarazo en niñas entre 11 y 15 años. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1998, vol.14, n.1, pp. 74-80. ISSN 1561-3038.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the obstetric risks in pregnant adolescents under 16. 188 girls agee 11-15 gave birth at the Gynecoobstetric Clinic of the University of Viena from July, 1970, to June, 1993. Primiparas between 20 and 24 years old, who gave birth during the same period (n=4 569), were used as control group. No significant differences were observed between both groups in connection with the appearance of hypertensive disease resulting from pregnancy (2,1 % vs 3,5 %), rate of premature deliveries (24,4 % vs 29,8 %), number of newborns under 2 500 g of weight (10,1 % vs 9,1 %), average birthweight (3 082 vs 3 117g), frequency of retarded intrauterine growth (2,1 % vs 2,4 %) and congenital malformations (1,6 % vs 3,1 %), as well as perinatal mortality at the end of the first week of life (1,1 % vs 0,5 %). In adolescent mothers the number of cesarotomies was lower than among the mothers from the control group (6,4 % vs 11,3 %, p < 0,05). The spontaneous deliveries were significantly more frequent (85,1 % vs 74,9 %, p 0,005). Young mothers compared with the control group gave birth less children over 4 000 g of weight (1,1 % vs 4,3 %, p <0,005). The maternal and neonatal risk in girls aged 11-15 was not very high compared with the control group of primiparas between 20 and 24 years old

Palabras clave : PREGNANCY; HIGH RISK; GESTATIONAL AGE.
