BATISTA MOLINER, Ricardo et al. La dispensarización: una vía para la evaluación del proceso salud-enfermedad. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.2, pp. 109-120. ISSN 1561-3038.
The process of patient classification is the object of the work carried out by the Basic Team of Primary Health Care in Cuba and the strategy of ambulatory care to the individual in the community is laid down starting from it. The patient classification has been largely improved based on the experiences and advances of the ambulatory services in our country and as a result of the introduction into our health system of the principles and objectives internationally established to attain the goals proposed by the World Health Organization and their fulfilment. A brief exposition of the historical evolution of patient classification is made and some conceptual and methodological elements related to this process as well as its current scope and fundamental content are presented. Aspects related to the consultation for evaluating the health status of the ambulatory patient are particularly approached. The most general elements connected with patient classification in special situations are stated and those aspects associated with the horizontal coordination in primary health care are also outlined.
