The authors conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study in the health urban area of "Marcio Manduley" Polyclinic, in Centro Habana Municipality, in order to identify the epidemiologic behaviour and that of the psychosocial factors related to suicide attempt (SA) in the last triennium (1996-1998). The sample consisted of 41 persons with SA that were permanent residents in the health area reported by the Statistics Department, which did a survey on suicide attempts. The main conclusion was that the prevalence rate of suicide attempt in the health area remained stable. A higher depression, guilt and/or hopelesness feelings and a disorganized home were the fundamental risk factors that preceded the suicide act. Most of the patients did not recieve specialized care after the attempt and many of those who had it considered it as ordinary
