Summary A descriptive analytic study of the assistance demand in the area of internal medicine of the Emergency Service of "Dr. Luis Díaz Soto" Hospital and of "Dr. Mario Escalona Reguera" Polyclinic was conducted from May 29th, 1995, at 8 a.m., to June 3rd, 1995, at 7:59 a.m. In order to know the behaviour of the demand its distribution was studied taking into account age, sex, horary groups (working and nonworking hours) and days of the week. It was concluded that there is no statistical association between age and sex, according to the demand distribution. However, highly significant differences were observed between the other variables and the horary groups. There was a predominance of young patients, who were attended mainly during the working hours. Monday was the day with the greatest working load.
