A comparative descriptive study on the home care behavior in a group made up of a population of 476 inhabitants seen at the physician’s office 21 of "Mario A. Pérez" polyclinics and a randomly selected group composed by a population of 7 821 inhabitants from 15 physician’s offices of the same polyclinics was carried out for a year. The behavior of both groups was different as to the incidence of home care that was higher in the study group as compared with the control group. The main cause for providing home care service in both groups were respiratory distress, followed by cardiovascular problems. The group of patients who did not receive this type of service due to medical decisions was highly significant in the control group in relation to those in the study group, who did not receive home care services because of inadequate sanitary conditions in their houses. The main cause of unsatisfactory recovery of the patients under home care system was neoplasias
