Resumen

HERNANDEZ CABRERA, Gisela; GONZALEZ GARCIA, Verónica Marlene; FERNANDEZ MACHIN, Luis  y  INFANTE PEREIRA, Olga. Actitud ante la muerte en los Médicos de Familia. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.1, pp. 22-32. ISSN 1561-3038.

A descriptive study of attitudes to death was carried out in a sample of 50 family physicians from "Plaza" polyclinics. A Cuban version of a previously designed instrument to study attitudes to death was used. At the same time, it was intended to establish the first indicators of validation and reliability of this version which is conventionally called: Questionnaire of Attitudes to Death (QAD) that includes 33 reactions grouped into 6 subclasses for the purpose of interpretation: avoidance, acceptance, fear, passage, exit and professional perspective. The processing of responses covered descriptive statistics and decision-making tests assisted by the SSPS-PC+ system. The prevailing attitudes to death found in the physicians were: avoidance and fear in an ambivalent environment given by positive attitudes of death acceptance as a natural fact of life, which means an inconsistent professional facing up to death. Generally speaking, the attitudes found revealed a poor preparation of the studied family physicians for a realistic approach to death.

Palabras clave : ATTITUDE TO DEATH; PHYSICIANS FAMILY; NEOPLASMS [psychology]; COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CARE.
