CALVO GONZALEZ, Alejandro et al. Life styles and risk factors associated with ischemic heart disease. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2004, vol.20, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.

A descriptive study was conducted in 4 physician's offices of the "Plaza de la Revolución" Teaching Polyclinic during 2000. 100 patients carriers of ischemic heart disease were included in this study. Two surveys were done: one to search for coronary risk factors, and the other to evaluate life styles, clinical forms of presentation and treatment. There was a predominance of females and white persons in the sample. More than half were retired, with an educational level not exceeding the 9th grade, and almost 90 % were over 60. The most frequent risk factors were arterial hypertension, pathological family history, sedentarism and smoking. It was also proved that the most used drugs were the platelet antiaggregants and the vasodilators. The non-painful ischemic heart disease was the predominating clinical form. On evaluating the life sytles of these patients, it was observed a prevalence of the non-promoting health behaviors in the sample. The worst results were those connected with health responsibility, intepersonal support and physical exercise

Palabras clave : Ischemic heart disease; risk factors; life styles.
