A bibliographic review was made on the role played by different groups of drugs in the management of heart failure, both systolic and diastolic, making emphasis on the latest advances that contribute to reduce on the long term morbidity and mortality from this disease, on correcting their neurohormonal unbalances. The most accurate indications, as well as the most used doses and contraindications are stressed for each group.
