INTRODUCTION: persons may be one of the notification sources of adverse reactions provoked by drugs. AIM: to describe, from consumer perspective, adverse reactions provoked by drugs. METHODS: a cross-sectional descriptive research in Cuban people aged older than 15, proportionally distributed by age and sex, from each capital municipality of country, except Havana City, where all were included. RESULTS: the 22,6 % of interviewed refers had in some moment a drug's adverse reaction, being more evident in persons aged older than 40 (56,7 %), and in women (60 %). More frequent reported drugs as producing of adverse reactions include antimicrobial agents (42,3 %) and anti-inflammatory ones (42,3 %), and non-steroid anti-inflammatory agents (18.1 %). Main adverse events reported are located in skin (35,6 %), and in central nervous system (CNS) (17,8 %). More reported adverse reactions were the minor ones (91,2 %). From the severe ones (9,8 %), the more frequent were angioedema and consciousness loss with 10 and 8 cases, respectively. CONCLUSION: pattern of drugs adverse reactions mentioned by surveyed persons is similar to that of Cuban National Coordinator Unit of Pharmacy-surveillance; feed on spontaneous notifications of National Health System professionals.
