GARCIA-VINIEGRAS, Carmen Regina Victoria; GRAU ABALO, Jorge A  y  PEDREIRA, Infante. Mourning and health-disease process in primary health care as the setting for its attention. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2014, vol.30, n.1, pp. 121-131. ISSN 0864-2125.

Introduction: grief is a normal adaptation to losses, which relates to the person, but the process can result in disease risk factor, increasing the morbidity and mortality of the mourners. It is a semi-hidden problem in contemporary public health that must be unveiled. Careful monitoring and overall management to avoid complications is requires. Objective: to characterize the match in their relationship with the health-disease process and as well provide some elements for addressing at the primary care level. Method: a review of the literature was performed on the impact of grief in the health-disease process. Development: grief is a stage of risk for the occurrence of some diseases (depression, immune susceptibility) or for becoming a disease or "pathological grief" different from depressive syndrome. Family is the natural environment where this process occurs, so its assessment and participation in the intervention is of particular significance. The specialist in family medicine and his/her health care team are the ones to bring attention to this health problem which is often hidden. Conclusions: the impact of grief is an important health risk factor, so monitoring is necessary, especially at the primary care level, which ensures its normal course and avoids complications.
