The changes occurred in the Cuban higher education, particularly in the medical education in the last ten years, made it possible that the author brings into question the need of designing the model professor for the educational settings of the medical studies. An analysis was made of the various theories on modeling that helped the author to submit the proposal of a model professor for the educational setting in the medical studies. This model would permit the professionalization of the educator, taking as a basis the identification of the model of his/her competencies as a medicine professor. The suggested model included the forms of professionalization and their partial validation. The achieved results validated the feasibility of the model.
