Resumen

SILVA HERNANDEZ, Diana Elena. Different ordering of the first topics on the Philosophy and Society I syllabus. Educ Med Super [online]. 2021, vol.35, n.1  Epub 01-Abr-2021. ISSN 1561-2902.

Introduction:

Marxism-Leninism is not just one more subject within a curriculum, but the guiding science that should preside over the development of our scientific knowledge in any branch.

Objective:

To present suggestions to achieve a different ordering of the first topics of the syllabus for the subject Philosophy and Society I and to create conditions that enable meaningful learning.

Methods:

Descriptive study carried out between March and July 2020 in Holguín Province. A documentary analysis of the program and the available literature was carried out using the following theoretical methods: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction. A questionnaire was applied to fifteen first-year medical students at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín, selected unintentionally.

Results:

According to the applied questionnaire, the subject that was liked least was Philosophy, accounting for eight students who mentioned it (53.3%); the reasons were that it is not very applicable, it is difficult to understand and hinders the study of other more important ones. An important suggestion was locating under the first topic, as a whole, the concept of "materialist dialectics", its laws, principles and categories, as opposed to its presentation in a fractional way in two chapters.

Conclusions:

The ordering of the contents suggested for topics I, II and III of the Philosophy and Society syllabus establishes conditions that enable the development of meaningful learning and critical thinking. They favor the effectiveness of the methodological guidelines of the program and the use of productive teaching methods, as well as facilitates the subjective integration of knowledge, together with providing discussion of a procedure for the selection of contents whose relationship favors the best possibilities for meaningful learning of a given study material.

Palabras clave : Philosophy and Society syllabus; Marxism-Leninism; medical sciences; meaningful learning; critical thinking; subjective integration of knowledge.
