INFANTE OCHOA, Idalmis; MORET MONTANO, Armando y CURBELO HEREDIA, Idelmis. Level of satisfaction at work of the nursing staff in oncological services. Rev Cubana Salud Pública [online]. 2007, vol.33, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3127.
The perfomance of oncological nursing demands the carrying out of a series of activities requiring a stricter control than in other disciplines, since this staff is exposed to many aggressions that may result in physical and emotional burnout due to their work of taking care of patients with cancer. The level of satisfaction of the oncological nursing staff is an indispensable factor to keep balance. No studies have been made so far in the country on the level of work satisfaction of nurses caring for oncological patients. This is the reason why a prospective descriptive intervention study was made at the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology in the year 2004. The universe was the whole active nursing staff at the time of the study. An instrument to measure satisfaction including intrinsic and extrinsic motivational factors was implemented. Descriptive statistical methods served to process data. The objectives were to determine satisfaction at work of the oncological nursing staff. It may be said that the nursing staff working in the oncological services is satisfied with the care provided to the patients, the working environment, the professional training and the role played. However, they are unsatisfied with working conditions, salaries and social acknowledgement. The first validation and reliability indicators of an instrument to evaluate satisfaction were obtained. Carrying out this evaluation is essential because it will contribute to define those actions that may be taken to solve these problems
