GONZALEZ VALDES, Patricia y CORDOVA LOPEZ, Luis F.. Application of computational system SICOM on the north coast of Cuba. riha [online]. 2019, vol.40, n.2, pp. 50-64. ISSN 1680-0338.
Due to its geographical position Cuba is subjected to extreme weather events, therefore the study of storm surge and waves is necessary. The SICOM (Coastal and Maritime Engineering System) is applied, which consists of the coupling of a set of numerical models for the study of hydrodynamics and morphodynamics in coastal areas on computational meshes. In this work, the models are forced with the meteorological variables associated with hurricanes Kate (1985) and Rita (2005). Different scenarios were established to know the behavior of hydrodynamic variables and sea levels. The results are validated by comparing them with the predictions of the WXtide program and the measurements provided by NOAA buoys. Statistical analyzes are performed obtaining satisfactory results.
