Resumen
DOMINGUEZ LLAMA, Jorge Luis et al. Osteosynthesis in patients elder than 75 years with femoral neck fracture. Rev.Med.Electrón. [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.1, pp. 45-53. ISSN 1684-1824.
Introduction:
hip fracture is associated to 30 % of mortality during the first year, with permanent damage to patient’s independence and life quality. Around the world, 4.5 millions of persons present hip fracture and it is believed that 21 millions will present it in 2040.
Objective:
to define the effectiveness of the treatment with spongeal screws in patients elder than 75 years with femoral fracture.
Material and methods:
a prospective, observational study was carried out in patients elder than 75 years old, with femoral neck fracture, surgically treated using 6.5 mm spongeal screws in the Teaching Provincial Clinico-surgical Hospital “Jose Ramon Lopez Tabrane”, of Matanzas, from January 2015 to January 2016. The universe was formed by 17 patients according to the inclusion criteria.
Results:
the 80-85-years-old age group and male sex predominated; sub- capital fractures were the most frequent. Most of the patients (14) were evaluated as good at the end; one patient was regular and two were bad.
Conclusions:
it is recommended the use of the treatment with spongeal screws in patients elder than 75 years old with femoral neck fracture any time it will be possible, due to its simplicity and good evolution in comparison with the use of simple prostheses. Precocious rehabilitation is an unavoidable necessity.
