SUAREZ SORI, Boris; MACIAS LLANES, María Elena; TORRES LEBRATO, Lay y CAPOTE FRADERA, Alejandro. Scientific publication of health professionals from Camagüey: Knowledge, motivations, and fulfillment of ethical standards. Rev Hum Med [online]. 2010, vol.10, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1727-8120.
A cross-sectional analytic study was carried out with health professionals from Camagüey to determine their knowledge, motivations, and fulfillment of ethical standards in scientific publication. After being informed, groups were selected and surveyed. The sample comprised 81 professionals of 26 medical specialties, who were interviewed from May to July 2009, and later grouped in four categories. Notwithstanding their teaching experience, teaching category, occupation, research category, and scientific grade, results showed that professionals had poor knowledge about scientific publication. They were only interested on achieving prestige, higher teaching categories, and second degree specialty title. Lack of resources and time caused their low scientific productivity. Many of them added other authors to their article unjustifiably. Members of the Provincial Health Scientific Board and most productive authors proved to have greater knowledge than health executives and participants in courses of scientific articles writing, who failed to comply with the ethics standards of publication.
