ROQUE GONZALEZ, CM Rosalba; TORRES PENA, CM Rafael y PEREIRA FRAGA, Jorge Gerardo. Current status of minimally invasive esophageal endoscopic cancer surgery. Rev haban cienc méd [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1729-519X.
We made a systematic review of current references about the role of minimal invasive surgery in esophagus cancer, the state of the art as well as their perspectives as a valid therapeutic alternative for patients affected by this disease. The review of publications related to this topic during the last years allow us to conclude that minimal invasive surgery in esophagus cancer offers a more precise preoperative staging in order to select the best surgical procedure for each patient depending on the step of the disease and also helps in the decision of adjuvant therapy for the ones who required it. MIS also diminished surgical morbidity and mortality and increase the patient´s quality of life with at less the same results than conventional surgery in terms of recurrences rate and survival.
