The article addresses three key issues. First, it locates the debate about fertility held in international meetings on population, highlighting the theoretical and methodological views. Then it describes the evolution of fertility behavior in the world with emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean, to finally focus on explaining the dynamics that this variable has shown in Cuba nowadays.
