Resumen

HERNANDEZ MONDEJAR, Wiliam; INIGUEZ ROJAS, Luisa  y  ALFONSO LEON, Alina. About regularities and differentiation. Territorial distribution of the aging population in the province of Holguín. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2016, vol.12, n.24, pp. 61-76. ISSN 1817-4078.

The aging process has been central on the agenda of Cuban academics and executives. Its status and evolution has been studied from different angles in each of the provinces. However, the use of census data of 2012 and systematization in smaller administrative units (DAME) has been poorly treated. In this sense the research main objective was to identify socio-spatial differences in the characteristics of aging, the aging population and dwellings where they reside in the province of Holguin according to the Census of Population and Housing 2012. To fulfill, the demographic dynamics and territorial distribution of the aging process in the province and its municipalities in the period 2002-2012 are contextualized. In addition, an analysis of the characteristics of the population of 60 years and over, as well as some material conditions of housing and the provision of basic services where this population resides is performed. Among the highlights founded are the regional differences between their DAME and between urban and rural areas of these territories. In addition, Moa accelerated aging process, the second municipality with the youngest demographic structure of the country.

Palabras clave : Aging population; Holguin province; territorial distribution.
