Resumen

RODRIGUEZ JAVIQUE, Daylín. Indirect standardization as a method for estimations in small populations. Rev Nov Pob [online]. 2019, vol.15, n.29, pp. 98-107.  Epub 15-Oct-2019. ISSN 1817-4078.

This article shows indirect standardization as a method for estimate indicators in small populations. First of all, it explains how it can be identified when we are in presence of a small population and it is argued why it is not possible to make direct estimates from the observed data. Real populations are used as examples, of which the real name is not shown because the objective is to elaborate a more explanatory and technical document than a work that analyzes behaviors of variables in a population. In a second moment, the text explains the indirect standardization and describes how the estimates are made, as well as the assumptions and interpretations of the already standardized rates. Likewise, examples are used to follow the process in a practical way to finally reach the result and compare it with the result that had been achieved before applying the technique.

Palabras clave : Indirect estimation; small population; standardization.
