ALONSO REYES, Mayrelis et al. Characterization of the pedagogical preparation of the tutors in the Public Health rotation in Medicine. EDUMECENTRO [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.3, pp. 171-187. ISSN 2077-2874.
Background: tutors' performance in Primary Health Care is essential to ensure the quality of in-service training activities and the achievement of the skills of fifth-year medical students in the Public Health rotation. Objective: to characterize the performance of the tutors in the in-service training activities in the Public Health rotation in the medical career. Methods: a descriptive investigation was carried out, from February to April 2016, at Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction and empirical ones: the survey in questionnaire form to tutors and interview to managers of the educational process in each health area, and the open observation through a guide. Absolute and relative frequency measurements were used for data analysis. Results: most tutors do not have a teaching rank; however, they have a 7-year teaching experience; although they consider important the in-service training activities, they have deficiencies to recognize the modalities that are applied in the subject; in addition, methodological difficulties were identified in the preparation, control and assessment of the teaching activities. Conclusions: the insufficient performance of tutors is due to difficulties in their pedagogical preparation and the low teaching ranking of teachers, which conspires against the quality of the process they develop.
