Resumen

GARCIA QUINONES, D. et al. Reproductive performance in a Cuban buffalo enterprise. Cuban J. Agric. Sci. [online]. 2017, vol.51, n.4, pp. 409-416. ISSN 2079-3480.

The performance of some reproductive indicators was evaluated: parturition- parturition period, service period, incorporation weight, incorporation age and age at first parturition of 8 buffaloes herds which had parturition between 2004 and 2013, in a livestock enterprise at east of Mayabeque province in Cuba. Some dispersion statisticians of the analyzed traits with SAS INSIGHT were studied and the GLIMMIX SAS procedure was used for the statistical analysis. The model used contained the fixed effects of herd, parturition year, parturition season and as a covariate the parturition number (1-5) for the first two indicators. For the incorporation weight, incorporation age and age at first parturition only the herd effect was considered in the model. The herd effect was significant for parturition- parturition period, incorporation weight, age at first parturition, year and season of parturition for parturition- parturition period and service period, while the fit for covariance according to the parturition number reached the significance for the parturition- parturition period and service period. The parturition -parturition period of the years 2007 and 2013 should serve as a reference so that future increases of this indicator that affect reproductive efficiency will not occur. The best values of the analyzed indicators were found in herds 212 and 213, which represent positive reference values for the enterprise.
