PEREZ-GARCIA, Liudmila et al. Influence of the rheological behavior of lateritic pulps on pumping efficiency. RTQ [online]. 2021, vol.41, n.3 Epub 30-Dic-2021. ISSN 2224-6185.
ABSTRACT For the experimental work of this research, samples of the pulp fed to the Acid Pressure Leaching process were taken and different concentrations of solid (37, 40, 43, 46 and 48%) and temperatures (28, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 ° C). For the chemical analysis the X-ray Diffraction Technique was used, the particle size distribution was determined in a particle size analyzer of the Analysette 22 COMPACT type and the rheological measurements were made with a HAAKE VT 550 brand rotational viscometer. In this way, it was determined that Fe is the predominant element in the chemical composition of the samples, but with values lower than the norm (47.5%), due to the increase in harmful substances (SiO2, Mg and Al) due to the depletion of mining reserves; and that all the pulps analyzed are mainly constituted by particles smaller than 50 𝜇𝑚, which confer plastic properties and determine their rheological behavior, which can be described by the Bulkley-Herschel and Ostwald de Waele models. It was shown that the shear stress and the apparent viscosity increase as the solids content in the pulps increases and, therefore, more pumping power is required; on the contrary, they decrease with increasing temperature at a fixed solids content. The evaluated pumps were found to work within acceptable efficiency ranges (from 66 to 74%) and all operating points comply with the design ranges.
