The occurrence of a number of cases with gait disorders, paresthesia and visual disorders was detected in a region of Buzi district, Sofala province, Mozambique. This gave rise to a research study on this phenomenon. Sixty patients were studied and applied a detailed questionnaire and a thorough neurological examination aimed at a clinical diagnosis of the disease. It was found as predominant factors: tiredness, weight loss, paresthesia, painful lower limbs and reduced vision. 56.6 % of them showed manifestations suggesting a combined form of peripheral neuropathy with optic nerve affected.Clinical evidence of lesions in the central and peripheral nervous systems, and in some cases, the auditory branch of the 8th cranial pair were obtained, being the 21-40 years age group the most affected. The diseases seemed to be related to many factors and the most important of them were the nutritional and toxic factors
