Resumen

VAZQUEZ VAZQUEZ, Lázaro  y  RODRIGUEZ MIRANDA, Adelaida. Evaluación nutricional de pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica en un área de salud del municipio Cerro. Rev cubana med [online]. 2001, vol.40, n.4, pp. 253-258. ISSN 1561-302X.

A cross-sectional study was conducted in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease to describe from the dietary, anthropometric, biochemical and immunological point of view the nutritional status of patients and to find its possible association with the degree of severity of the disease. A screening was carried out at 3 family physician’s offices corresponding to a health area of "Cerro" municipality with 364 patients over 40 or more, smokers or asthmatics, or with both affections. This clinical diagnosis was made in 46 of them and it was confirmed in 27 patients by functional respiratory tests. A dietary survey was done and the body mass indexes and the muscular circumference of the arm were calculated. Serum albumin and white blood cells count were determined. Delayed-action skin tests were made. No affectation of the anthropometric or biochemical indicators was observed, but a deficit of the energetic and protein contribution was found in most of the patients. There was an association between the degree of severity of the disease and the nutritional status. The delayed-acting skin tests were the most outstanding in this association
