RODRIGUEZ NUNEZ, Ana; BALESTENA SANCHEZ, Jorge M. y PAGARIZABAL MILLAN, Ernesto. Maternal factors that influence neonatal depression. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2003, vol.29, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.
With the objective of identifying some maternal factors that influence neonatal depression, a prospective cross-sectional and analytical research work that includes all the newborns with Apgar score under 7 at 5 minutes of extrauterine life was conducted in "Comandante Pinares" hospital from 1997 to 1999. To make a comparison, a control group with the same number of newborns but Apgar score above 7 was formed in a simple randomized way subsequent to the case study. A form was prepared to study the maternal variables. Different statistical methods were used. Adolescence, pregnancy at over 35 years of age, nuliparity, multiparity, pregnant women who had some pregnancy-related disease, prolonged pregnancy, forceps and cesarean section as ways of termination of pregnancy were very significant variables. It was concluded that the above-mentioned variables were risk factors for fetuses that might suffer depression at birth.
