This research is a descriptive longitudinal study; with the objective to characterize the attachment of a group of children with their parents in the first year of life. A qualitative methodology is used and case study as method. The most important results were that parents have representations of the parent-child relationship characterized by privileging affective and socialization functions in their parental task. In addition, they present gender stereotypes associated with parental performance. Fathers, mothers and their children generally experience a predominance of positive emotions in the parent-child relationship. Gender stereotypes are evident in parental involvement and sensitivity, since mothers are the ones who have the greatest participation in childcare activities and are more accessible to children. The children in the study show behaviours of seeking and maintaining proximity to both parents and behaviours of preference towards them.
