Resumen
ARCE HERNANDEZ, Ada A et al. Anti-complement activity in immunoglobulin preparations for intravenous use. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.
The anti-complement activity was determined in treated samples by slightly acidifying the solution up to a ph=4.0 and in untreated samples of 10 batches of immunoglobulin preparations for intravenous use. A rise in the anti-complement activity of 7 out of 10 untreated samples was shown, which indicated the presence of immunoglobulin aggregates capable of activating the complement system. The levels of anti-complement activity in the acidified samples remained within the allowable ranges. The results revealed the importance of measuring the anti-complement activity in intravenous immunoglobulin preparations so as to determine the possible presence of aggregates that can cause serious systemic reactions if they are administered to a patient
