Introduction:
patients with mouth breathing acquire an adaptive posture of the structures of the head and the neck region, which affect the relationship of the jaws and the normal development of the same, bringing oral, facial and skeletal clinical manifestations.
Objective:
to determine the level of knowledge of parents or guardians of patients about mouth breathing, as well as the clinical manifestations that it causes.
Method:
an observational, descriptive and correlation study was conducted in 120 parents of patients between 7 to 19 years of age who enrolled in the orthodontics department of the Luis Galván Soca Polyclinic in the Centro Habana municipality between July 2017 and August 2018 and were breathing by the mouth.
Results:
the results showed low knowledge of patients and parents or guardians about mouth breathing, as well as the clinical manifestations that it causes. High ratio of flat feet and kyphosis found.
