GUERRA BETANCOURT, Rosa María; RICO CHAPMAN, Miraima; RODRIGUEZ NIEVES, Mabel y SEGUI SANCHEZ, Mercedes. Peripheral ossifying fibroma. Case report. ccm [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.3, pp. 1027-1033. Epub 01-Sep-2019. ISSN 1560-4381.
The peripheral ossifying fibroma is a benign tumor process which appears in the soft tissues, rising up the interdental papilla. It possesses a controversial ethiology, though it is associated to the presence of local irritants. It is presented as a steady slow growing lesion with from normal to reddish colors more frequently in females, during the second and third decades of life. The clinical case we present is about a 44 years old female patient with a 6 months of evolution tumor lesion in her gingiva as an exophytic gingival mass, well delimited with regular borders, hard consistency, around 2 cm, which can be extended from 41 to 43 vestibular and includes the lingual papilla with pink color to reddish zones, smooth surface and some superficial ulcerations. The X-ray showed the interdental septum erosion between 42 and 43. The removal surgery of the lesion was made, and the histopathological study permitted definitive diagnosis as a peripheral ossifying fibroma.
