The article investigates the characteristics and central approach of the theory of neocoloniality. The type of research according to the purpose corresponds to basic or theoretical research. The method used was the hermeneutic for the interpretation of the assumptions of the theory of neocoloniality to expand knowledge. The synthetic analytical method was used to unify the assumptions of the Theory. The data collected was from the different publications on the subject. In this way, the results are: Highlight the importance of Aníbal Quijano's proposal as it is a theory of its own for Latin America, the same one that allows the social sciences to carry out a deep analysis from the historical perspective, on the coloniality of power and its Different manifestations, in turn, leads us to rethink a new form of construction of citizenship that allows a true redistribution of power, and the reconstruction of the Nation State.
