The use of social networks encourages a high level of connectivity among its users while they also represent a communication channel based on immediacy and freedom of expression, especially in young people. Therefore, this research fits within the needs for reflection and analysis in the field of science, technology, innovation and society. The proposed objective of this research is to establish the role of technology in the study of interactivity in the social network Twitter and the social dilemmas that arise in the students majoring in communication at the University of Cuenca and the University of Azuay. It is a mixed method study which has applied content analysis by reviewing bibliographic sources. Also, the use of Twitter was quantified. Finally, a focus group technique was used. The main results shows that Social Communication students use Twitter to interact through posts, retweets and multimedia resources. Additionally, the users have to face several dilemmas, accentuating the decision they have to make between posting to generate interaction and taking the risk of receiving criticism. It can be concluded that the use of Twitter by young students majoring in social communication at the University of Cuenca and the University of Azuay represents a positive tool for interaction; however, there are also risks that can even affect their feelings.
