Society has worried about facial esthetics associated with teeth since ancient times. Being afraid of social rejection due to changes of dental form, color or positions may produce a great psychological impact on patients. In order to assess the psychosocial repercussion of the facial esthetic alterations, to determine the priorty level of the esthetic dental treatments and to show the need of intensifying our educative work directed to prevent the most common esthetic affections in our population, we did an anonimous survey among 110 patients that received attention at the Service of Comprehensive Stomatology of the Faculty of Stomatology between November, 1999, and April, 2000. Information was gathered about the attitude assumed by the affected patients, treatment priorities, etc. Such information was processed in statistical tables. The results allowed us to conclude that esthetic dental affections have a big psychosocial repercussion, which together with the fact of having demonstrated that the traumatic injuries are the commonest esthetic affections, show us the need of making emphasis on our educative work on this regard.
