A descriptive study of 123 patients admitted in Escambray Kurhotel, Topes de Collantes, by the Geriatric Revitalization Program, from 1998 to 1999, was conducted. The age groups 60-65 and 66-70 showed the highest percentages (26.8 and 23.6 %, respectively). A slight predominance of females (54 %) was observed. Most of the individuals were white (84 %). Polypharmacy was found in 24.4 % of the cases. Adverse reactions were detected in 7.4 % of the patients. Nifedipine and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) caused these effects more frequently. Drug interactions accounted for 41 % of the sample and only 2 % were considered as major severity. The benefit/risk relationship was favorable for our patients.
