Resumen

GONZALEZ RINCON, Maczy et al. Serum levels of interleukin-2 before and after blood donation. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2007, vol.23, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2996.

Alterations of the components of the immune system are generated among blood donors; however, little is known about the soluble mediators as interleukin-2 (IL-2), an important marker of the immune response. The serum levels of IL-2 were determined in 324 volunteer blood donors before, 24 hours and 12 days after the donation by using enzymatic immunoassay. There were obtained average values of 7.46, 7.41, and 7.83 U/mL for IL-2 during the described periods, respectively. In spite of the significant changes described in the immunity response, IL-2 did not seem to be affected in the donors after donation, due maybe to the low levels of T lymphocytes expected in healthy individuals, whose immune system is in optimal conditions. Further studies would be necessary to clear-up the behaviour of this cytokine and its influence on the immune response of the donor, according to the donated hemoderivate.

Palabras clave : Interleukin-2; blood donors.
