DOMINGUEZ UMPIERREZ, José E y MARRERO ARTABE, Leonel. A Catalogue of Detected Pest Insects Associated to Food Warehouses in Matanzas Province. Fitosanidad [online]. 2010, vol.14, n.2, pp. 75-82. ISSN 1818-1686.
A catalogue of detected pest insects associated to food warehouses of Matanzas city is offered. Entomological records available in Provincial Plant Health Laboratory were verified and the species occurrence captured by means of insect trap systems placed in six food warehouses during the period July 2006 to March 2007 is informed too. Thirty eight species of noxious insects belonging to three orders and 14 families are reported; the coleopterons were the taxa of highest incidence, represented by 33 species, of those which Ahasverus advena Waltl., Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman), Oryzaephilus surinamensis Linnaeus, Carpophilus dimidiatus (Fabricius) and Tribolium castaneum Herbst., were the most frequents. Rice and beans were the foods of highest attack, although severe infestations was also observed in powdered milk, nutritious pasture, coffee, lentil, and seeds and concentrated, products that constituted new host reports for Carpophilus dimidiatus. Liposcelis sp. (Psocoptera: Liposcelidae) is informed for the first time as pest insect of warehouse in our province, due to their detection in several foods and the skin damage wich it caused to the warehouses workers.
