GREFA-TANGUILA, Georgina Dalila y ROSERO-MANTILLA, César. Musculoskeletal disorders among pretanning workers: a case study. Ing. Ind. [online]. 2022, vol.43, n.3, pp. 131-147. Epub 11-Nov-2022. ISSN 1815-5936.
The objective of this research is to determinate the level of risk associated with the Manual Handling of Loads (MHL) and its impact on the Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) among workers of a tannery. For the present case study, four methodologies were used: Nordic questionnaire, ISO 11228-1 on lifting loads, ISO 11228 -2 on pushing and pulling, and the Guide on load lowering and handling of the National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (INSHT). The posts analyzed are exposed to an unacceptable level of risk, both in the case of unhairing and fleshing, while in the case of splitting the risk level is moderate. The Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire reveals that 100% of workers suffer from musculoskeletal disorders; 83% of them have back problems mainly. In conclusion, the research evidenced that all pre-tanning workers suffer musculoskeletal discomfort in different body regions related with manual handing of loads.
