The aviation sector has a vital significance for the socio-economic development of nations. It is in constant expansion and is not immune to the climate change impacts. For this reason, it is necessary the application of measures that contribute to its resilience. In this paper was analyzed the established list proposed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in order for airports to face the climate threats such as the changing conditions, the sea-level rise and desertification; explaining how each one of them might affect the aviation sector using instances of previous damages occurred in Cuban airports. From the trends and projections analysis of the Cuban climate and the study of foreign airports experiences, were proposed adaptation and mitigation measures following the ICAO recommendations, using the José Martí International Airport as an example. The results of this paper will help to implement climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in this important sector.
