Green urban areas, particularly street trees, have problems; some lasting through many years, others are more recently, which restrict their functional and environmental benefits, and at the same time produce important physical damages due to the unsuitable tree selection and lack of urban forestry management actions. This work deals with matters concerning trees within the urban landscape, particularly streetscape, and tries to analyze the current situation in Havana city in order to explore management and design performances that might contribute to overcome old and recent problems in a properly way. Through the synthesis of the most outstanding historical facts in these matters, the specialized literature and the field observation, the main causal factors of the problem and contributions for the appropriate tree selection were determined.
