Background:
academic flexibility and virtual methods are complex processes in medical training for professors, students and families.
Objective:
to assess actions for academic flexibility in the Medical-Surgical and Midwifery Bachelor's Degree in times of COVID-19, in the Medicine degree at the Siglo XXI University Center, in Mexico.
Methods:
a descriptive study with a qualitative approach was carried out in the Medical-Surgical and Midwifery degree from April to December 2020. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction; empirical ones: documentary and observational analysis of programs, teaching tasks, electronic platforms, drive and others, and the observation of teachers and tutors in virtual scenarios by camera.
Results:
the documentary analysis and the observational actions to teachers and students in various scenarios allowed verifying the training activities with virtual interaction, using information technology. The virtual environment became an innovative opportunity in crisis situations. The teaching activities were collaborative and interactive, innovative clinical situations and simulation. The results show high diversity. Undoubtedly, it calls on the university authorities and other levels of teaching leadership to be vigilant to curb the educational and social inequality that COVID-19 can cause.
Conclusions:
continuity in the degree was achieved in conditions of a COVID-19 pandemic, applying academic flexibility and new technologies with an emphasis on comprehensive training and the balance between instructive and educational.
