A l-year period study was carried out at "Gustavo Aldereguía Lima" Provincial Clinical and Surgical Hospital from January, 1^st 1994 to January, 1^st 1995 with the aim of knowing the present situation of nosocomial infection in our center. A number of 299 patients was studied, and it was proved that the most frequent sepsis were respiratory sepsis, phlebitis, and surgical sepsis; isolated germs were found to be Klebsiella, Staphylococcus, Pseudomona, and Escherichia coli; males were more affected than females. A microbiological verification was performed in 30.43 % of cases and services most reported accounted for medical care to seriously ill patients and were related to a greater volume of admission. Geriatric age groups were found to be a risk factor. The most frequent infections have a direct and indirect relationship to the aggression of the nosocomial germ.
