HIERRO GONZALEZ, Alfredo; HANO GARCIA, Olga Marina y JIMENEZ, Graciela. Estudio endoscópico del íleon terminal. Rev cubana med [online]. 2002, vol.41, n.3, pp. 141-145. ISSN 1561-302X.
It was decided to conduct a study of 683 terminal ileum endoscopies to determine the average length explored, causes of indication and coincidence between the endoscopic and histological diagnosis. It was detected that the average length explored was 14.80 cm and the commonest cause of indication was chronic diarrhea. A normal ileum was observed in 73.06 % of the cases. There was a high diagnostic coincidence between the endoscopic and the histological method. The need to perform an endoscopic exploration of the terminal ileum associated with the taking of multiple biopsies when there are characteristic symptoms, such as chronic diarrheas, abdominal pain or enterorrhagia, was proved.
