GARCIA MOREIRO, Reynol Delfín; CASTILLO PERERA, Jesús; ESTENOZ ESQUIVEL, Juan Carlos  y  AYUP GARCIA, Diana. Burns in pregnancy: A case presentation. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 1999, vol.25, n.3, pp. 165-169. ISSN 1561-3062.

The treatment of major burns is one of the most dynamic and debated issues of our times. In this paper, we present a critical patient with 40 % of burned body surface and 24.6 weeks of pregnancy, who was cared for by burn specialists and obstetricians at the Burned Patient Service of the Provincial Hospital in Moron. It was decided to keep a close surveillance (clinical and obstetric) on the patients pregnancy whereas her burns were treated with all effective methods for this type of cases, followed by required general and specific care. Effective nutrition, daily hydrotherapy, antibiotic therapy and five sessions of surgical treatment under anesthesia were necessary. After 92 days, the patient was transferred to the Obstetric ward. The patient was totally healed and had 37.4 weeks of pregnancy. Finally she had an eutocic delivery and her newborn weighted 2 800 g, with Apgar 9/9.
