Resumen

BRITO MENDEZ, Eligio Cándido; GUERRA VERDECIA, Carlos  y  FERNANDEZ CORDERO, Elizabeth. Exploration of some important aspects pregnant women should know at 2 hospitals of Granma province. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2002, vol.28, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

A descriptive and intervention study was conducted to know the information level of pregnant women from Río Cauto (study group) with more than 34 weeks admitted at "Fernando Echenique" Hospital from May to June, 2000. A similar sample of 70 patients from other municipalities of the Cauto zone (control group) admitted at "Carlos Manuel de Céspedes" Provincial Hospital, in Granma, entered the study, too. A survey was done to explore the information related to the diet of the pregnant, the signs of alarm of preterm birth, exclusive breast feeding and the use of contraceptives during the lactation period. Questions were answered at the end of the survey. The information was processed by the downstroke method and it was taken to simple tables. Discussion was made based on the criteria found in the reviewed literature and it was observed that the information was similar for both groups. Although many patients had no information, most of them know about the signs of alarm of preterm birth. (63.57 %) and about exclusive breast feeding (72.14 %), knwoledge that was a little higher in the study group from Río Cauto. Knowledge about the pregnant's diet (67.51 %) and about the use of contraceptive methods during breast feeding was higher in the control group from other municipalities. It was proved that most of the patients (57.71 %) have no information about the use of contraceptives during breast feeding.
