The study of 110 women aged 40-59 years from 4 physician's offices in Playa municipality was conducted from June 1 st to July 31 st , 2004. The following variables were examined: age, age at menopause, schooling, occupation, family and marital relationships, climateric syndrome symptoms, incidence on work, medical care demand and going to the doctor's for this reason. It was concluded that climateric syndrome manifestations were more frequently found in perimenopausal women with predominance of heat surge, anxiety, depression as well as disorders in libido. With respect to social repercussion, the main problems were labor problems due to absenteeism and late arrivals to workplace whereas those of family origin related to the different roles that women must play, which create difficulties for their personal, family and social performance
