The association of breast cancer and pregnancy is uncommon, less than 3 cases per 100 pregnancies. Breast cancer is the first malignant disease affecting women after the age of 25. At present, there is a tendency toward retardation in maternity, so it is expected an increase of this health problem in the world. In Cuba, it is estimated that between 17 and 52 pregnant women have breast cancer every year. This cancer is diagnosed during pregnancy or the year after. The knowledge of the natural history and biology of the tumor is important to establish the prognosis and therapeutics. During pregnancy, the staging has peculiarities and surgery is generally indicated, whereas the chemotherapies of the second and third trimesters are not contraindicated. Nowadays, a national protocol is being prepared in Cuba for the management of these patients.
