Resumen

AGUILAR FABRE, Kenia et al. Human papilloma virus and cervical cancer. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2008, vol.34, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3062.

In Cuba, cervical cancer occupies the second place in incidence among the malignant diseases affecting women. From the 80's on, the human papilloma virus (HPV) is recognized as the main etiological agent of cervical cancer and its CIN III precursor lesion. However, the infection due to these viruses does not seem to be enough to cause cervical cancer, whereas the presence of other exogenous and endogenous factors may increase, in association with the virus, the risk for developing this disease. It is known that HPV is the fundamental etiological agent of cervical cancer. The importance and force of this topic demands to go deep into the etiopathogeny of this disease aimed at expanding the options of treatment and more effective health actions in order to reduce mortality from this cause.

Palabras clave : Human papilloma virus; cervical cancer.
