LIMAS PEREZ, Yanet et al. Effectiveness of Anthropometric Indicators for the Diagnosis of Intrauterine Growth Restriction. Rev Cubana Obstet Ginecol [online]. 2019, vol.45, n.1, pp. 37-47.  Epub 01-Mar-2019. ISSN 1561-3062.

Introduction:

Intrauterine growth restriction refers to the inability of the fetus to reach the biologically determined growth potential. The ultrasound tool is the cornerstone for the diagnosis of growth restriction in which fetal biometry is crucial.

Objective:

To determine the effectiveness of anthropometric indicators for the diagnosis of intrauterine growth restriction.

Methods:

A prospective study was conducted from October 2012 to October 2014 in pregnant women with simple pregnancies and adequate weight, at Chiqui Gómez Lubián health area in Santa Clara. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves of anthropometric indicators were constructed for the prediction of intrauterine growth restriction.

Results:

The cephalic circumference / abdominal circumference indicator showed greater area under ROC curve in both quarters, with higher values in the third quarter.

Conclusions:

The effectiveness of the indicators studied for the prediction of intrauterine growth restriction was only verified in the third quarter.

Palabras clave : intrauterine growth restriction; fetal biometry; anthropometric indicators.
